We are pleased to launch the CHELPS Seminar Series in September - What Do We Mean by Doing Research? This series is dedicated to reflecting on the meaning, purposes, and methods of research, and to exploring how research connects with practice. Open to colleagues and friends across career stages, disciplines, and countries, the series seeks to bridge the divide between research and practice through conversations that are both intellectually enriching and practically meaningful.
The guiding questions for Seminar 11:
Q 1: When a researcher selects a topic, to what extent is that choice driven by community needs versus systemic incentives (e.g., rapid publication targets, grant priorities, institutional prestige)?
Q 2: How does our choice of methodology reveal - or actively hide - our privileges, biases, and relationship to the people or subjects being researched?
