Why are there so few female professors, and how can this change?
The under-representation of women at full professor level is an international phenomenon even in highly feminised disciplines, such as Education. This session will explore the reasons underpinning this fact, challenge a number of myths as to why this occurs, and provide insights into how women academics can break through the ivory ceiling and become a full professor.
Date: 19 FEB 2025
Time: 1PM - 2PM
Venue: C-LP-02
How do I develop a strong case for professorship?
This session will help participants to develop an understanding of how to build a strong case for professorship. It will provide an insight into what evidence is required and how this evidence can best be presented beyond lists of publications and research grants commonly found on an academic CV.
Criteria for determining whether an academic has an international reputation will also be discussed along with examples of personal statements.

What does it mean to be a professor?
While much attention is lavished on the process of becoming a (full) professor, it is also important to consider what it means to be one. How does becoming a professor change self-expectations, and what do institutions hope for too?
This session will engage participants in discussion about the nature of the professorial role drawing on academic research on intellectual leadership conducted by the facilitators.
